The West Coast Fossil Park, close to Velddrif, gives us an insight into the world as it was 5 million years ago. See the fossils of bears, sabre-tooth cats, short-necked giraffes and the many other exotic animals which inhabited the West Coast in eras gone by.
A fascinating range of extinct animals are displayed and the many thousands of fossil bones excavated have attracted international interest with many scholars from all over the world doing research at this site.
Come and have an on-site fossil experience and learn about ancient environments; the animal life and the climatic changes that occurred in this region. See where the Berg River estuary was 5 million years ago!

The West Coast Fossil Park is always in need of the help of volunteers to: guide; do fossil preparatory work; be an assistant curator or be a clerical assistant.
Location: The Fossil Park is located 110kms north of Cape Town, only one and a half hour's drive along the R27. Turn off on the R45 towards Hopefield.
